How Do I Stop My Puppy From Chewing on Everything!?

When you first welcome your puppy home, they’re bound to mistake your favorite sneakers for their toys!

Chewing is an entirely natural behavior for puppies, so it’s our responsibility to offer them appropriate chewing items and keep an eye on them when necessary.

Around 12 weeks of age, puppies begin teething as they lose their baby teeth and new adult ones emerge. During this period, puppies often chew more to alleviate gum discomfort. If you notice signs of teething in your puppy, providing them with specialized teething toys can help soothe their gums.

  • Ensure your puppy’s success by removing any objects within their reach that you don’t want them to chew on.
  • If your puppy grabs something off-limits, swiftly replace it with a toy and praise them for chewing on the correct item.
  • Keeping a variety of toys on rotation can also prevent boredom and reduce the likelihood of destructive chewing.

When leaving your puppy unsupervised, it’s important to create a “puppy-proof” area in your home where they can’t access items that might tempt them to chew.

If anxiety seems to be driving your puppy’s chewing behavior, consider using Adaptil to help them feel more relaxed.
